Google Discloses Google Assistant; a Big Upgrade to Google Now!
During Google I/O 2016, the largest event of the year; Google unveiled its smart personal assistant that uses artificial intelligence and search to help people not just get answers to their queries but to even regulate their devices. It is better to say that Google Assistant performs the same tasks as the other Google interfaces, but in a conversational mode. Though it doesn’t have the name, it has the capability of Google and deep mine of data behind it.
In the past few years, we have seen some big tech companies launching their personal assistant like; Apple’s Siri, Amazon’s Alexa, Microsoft’s Cortana, and so on. All of them are already iconic assistants with distinct personalities. The reason behind so is that each has a name and a personified intelligence that you imagine are relevant to you. To be frank, none of them are as powerful as Google.
Illustrating Google Assistant
According to Google, the new assistant will make movie suggestions based on the films you liked before. Google assistant changes the recommendation accordingly. It will offer you with movie reviews and will help you buy tickets. Users are going to like it!
You can ask Google assistant a question for an answer and follow up with multiple questions. Google will be picking the conversation out and returning the right answer. Google assistant is also built into Allo, the new independent chat bot app, as well as Google Home; the Amazon Echo competitor.
CEO Sundar Pichai said;”Think of the assistant, we think of it as a conversational assistant, we want users to have an ongoing two way dialog”.
A New Competitor
Google Assistant appears to be a direct competitor to Alexa and Siri and, Hound as well. This could be the signal that Google is getting more and more serious about promoting itself as a virtual assistant that can return almost anything and everything when users looking for an answer. The assistant is capable of executing certain tasks like changing reservation times or setting calendar reminders.
But the big question is whether Google is late to the scene or not. Hound has already unveiled its virtual assistant and it is really an impressive one. Facebook is gunning for its own virtual assistant application and is building a developer platform for the other aspects as well. But with Google it can leverage its powerful AI tools and all the facts it has collected over the years to construct a smart virtual assistant.
When the other search interfaces are striving it hard to new devices, Google is finding out new ways to monetize it. Google’s CPS has been dropping consistently for the past few years. But the company has make up for it with queries on mobile devices. It is still going to have to build new advertising products to help grow the business.
Google also unveiled Google Home, a leading competitor to Alexa that serves as a voice recognition interface for Google assistant. As Google continues to refine Google Assistant, it ensures that it continues to extend its search products all over. Mr. Pichai also said that “it is really exciting to see Google Assistant come to life with Google Home”.
